There’s no way he completes two seasons there. The last time AI was plunged into an environment that foreign, it was at Georgetown. He won’t have a John Thompson in Turkey.
I didn’t get the joke, but this picture is AI being saved from fans. Fans of Beşiktaş are among the worlds greatest and every star player that plays in Beşiktaş leaves Turkey with great memories and love for the fans. Maybe you don’t call him a star, but you can ask Khaleed el-amin who is a great guy about it. SOme years ago Khaleed was AI’ing his way through the Turkish league in Beşiktaş and it was awesome. The Beşiktaş basketball games were something to see back then. The atmosphere in the stadium was incredible
The joke centers around the look of abject terror in Iverson’s face. I’m sure he’s being guided through the throng, but at first glance it looks like he’s being detained.
I hope, for the sake of the fans, that AI can focus on basketball and keep his demons at bay. A motivated AI is a once-in-a lifetime talent.
Ok, thanks for explaining. By the way, I enjoyed your post at freedarko very much(your blog too, after I found about it). As a guy who loves basketball but doesn’t have the opportunity to follow the league so much, my favourite basketball articles are the ones that aren’t necessarily about nba or basketball games I haven’t watched. So I guess that’s why i like freedarko and your article .
I’m with you on this one! BUT I truly hope we’re both wrong. AI in the heart of Turkey, with hostile fans equals all to the bad!
